Methods of filing income tax return

There are two ways in which you can file income tax returns –

1. Phys­i­cal form filings
2. Online tax fil­ing or e-filing
3. TRPS
4. Tax Fil­ing Ser­vice providers

1) Phys­i­cal Form filings

You can down­load the rel­e­vant income tax form which is avail­able in Income Tax web­site. Fill the form and sub­mit it in the income tax depart­ment office.

2) Online or Elec­tronic form filing

As the name sug­gests, you can file your income tax returns online. This is pop­u­larly known as e-filing or online tax return filing.

3) TRPs

TRPs or Tax Return Pre­par­ers are tax pro­fes­sion­als who can assist in fil­ing  income tax returns. The income tax depart­ment launched the TRP pro­gramme in 2005. The objec­tive of the TRP scheme is to serve taxpayers.

4) Tax Fil­ing Ser­vice providers

You will be com­ing across these com­pa­nies adver­tise­ments in newspapers/radio etc. Basi­cally these are com­pa­nies who help you in fil­ing your tax return. These com­pa­nies do charge a pro­fes­sional fee for fil­ing the tax returns.
